Completed: 1989 for $16.3 M. This 1.1 million sq. ft. campus is sites on 230 wooded acres. This campus-style office complex is one of the largest facilities of its kind in New England. Accommodating 2,500 IBM employees, the indoor space is comprised of 4 vast, interconnecting buildings (each 250,000 sq. ft.) These contain offices, a conference center, cafeteria, and a mainframe computing center supported by redundant power grids, UPS facilities, and emergency power generation. All of the interior and exterior design work was completed by Philip Loheed, who skillfully integrated the outdoor elements of the complex with the interior of the buildings for a unique, naturalistic aesthetic.Challenges faced: Each of the 4 buildings were completed concurrently on an extremely fast-track, 18 month schedule.
